EDGE have developed and are now assisting in the implementation of a comprehensive environmental improvement programme for a large manufacturing business in Lancashire.

Part of the work involves replacing a major section of the existing factory roof, which is in poor condition. EDGE identified that this work would present a significant opportunity to improve the environmental performance of the building as a whole.

We suggested a phased approach to the roof replacement to avoid compromising production and simultaneously delivering improved functionality and reduced running costs.

The new roof is designed to enhance natural lighting levels within the building which will reduce lighting demand, with daylight correction specified to the lighting system. Heat recovery from the operational space is also specified to reduce heating demand, along with vertical baffles which will reduce volume heat-loss when the main roller shutter doors are opened.

The result is a package of measures which will:

  • Significantly increase the value of the building
  • Reduce running costs
  • Improve the working environment
