This modern property was designed and built by VBS Construction of Rossendale, using BecoWallform insulated concrete formwork. With high insulation levels in the floor and roof, plus MVHR, this innovative building is extremely energy efficient.
The brief
The brief was to design a bespoke system to run the underfloor heating on both floors and provide hot water to three bathrooms within the living space, which could incorporate some or all of the output from the on-site 50kW photovoltaic installation.
Using an accumulator tank with a domestic hot water generation coil – a unit typically found in biomass systems – generated power is introduced into the system via a 5kW 3φ immersion heater. Weather compensating controls provide temperature regulation for the underfloor heating and the coil in the accumulator lifts the temperature of the water before it enters the unvented hot water cylinder.
